What is Prompt Studio?

Prompt Studio is a purpose-built prompt engineering environment for document data extraction. It has two primary functions:

  1. It allows you to write generic prompts to extract data from any unstructured document that work across variants of the document type.
  2. It allows you to define a schema for the extraction

In the following sections, we'll look at the details of how Prompt Studio affords these to you, the user.

What Prompt Studio is not

To better understand Prompt Studio, it's important to understand what it's not.

While Prompt Studio provides an easy way to quickly check if Unstract is able to extract data from some document, it's not what it's meant for. Like mentioned above, the primary purpose of Prompt Studio is to allow you to develop generic prompts while also allowing you to specify a schema for the extraction. To do the actual extraction, the Prompt Studio project you develop is deployed as one of the following:

Please note that Prompt Studio is not for document data extraction. It is for developing your prompts and for specifying your extraction schema. Please use API Deployments, ETL Pipelines or Human Quality Review for the actual data extraction.
